“You can do accountancy in any form that suits you.” – Abigail Foster, ACA
“Impact people’s lives positively with your work.” – Veronica Beilby, CA
These words resonated strongly with me.
I started out in a typical route as most of the Chartered Accountants, in a Big Four audit firm, stable and prestigious. Then I moved on to a small scale technology start-up, demanding and challenging.
However, being in these two roles did not fulfil me from the inside, I knew I wanted something more than just a desk-bound job, not an accountant that’s just in charge of the back office.
There is this stigma that if I tell people I am an accountant, they just go “Oh, ok”.
Many business owners actually struggle to understand the financial health of their business.
When people are starting their own businesses or trying to learn something new for the first time, they decide to leave finances on one side and let someone else do it. For most start-ups, the downfall is often cashflow and people not understanding what is in their pocket.
As accountants, we should be there, not only to crunch the numbers for you, but also to help you strategise your next ten moves, whilst thinking about numbers in the background.
Beyond the numbers, it’s about strategy. I want business owners to see us as key leaders, and not just people that are doing bank statements.
I want to help business owners answer the question of “How do we get from Point A to Point B?”
I knew I wanted to help business owners who are struggling with this.
Circling back to the guiding words above, I feel this is the way to run my business, to do accountancy in a way that value adds to business owners, and create a positive impact on the lives of business owners.
Hence, we crafted our mission around this.
To alleviate the administrative load on business owners through our expertise, and simplify these mundane yet essential parts of the business through automation.
What's the meaning of Spoon Elves?
“As I thought about the name for our business, I knew I wanted to bring in a fun and approachable vibe to this mundane and serious world of professional services. Why do these services always have to be boring and serious? Why can’t it contain a tinge of excitement and fun when we introduce our services to you?
One day, as I was cracking my head around this, an image formed in my mind where little elves were working very hard in the background trying to get something done. At the same time, I was thinking what can represent something that may seem unimportant yet essential to our daily lives, just like how our services are to a company…and a spoon came to my mind. You may not be able to finish your meal without utensils, and that may also not be the first thing that come to your mind when eating too.
That’s how Spoon Elves was formed. Just imagine little Elves scurrying around with Spoons, trying to scoop the information to the right places and get the work done. And that’s why our aim is to be as essential to your Business as a Spoon to your meals.”
